What does Ayurveda say about blood donation
What does Ayurveda say about blood donation
Namaskar, I am Dr. Satish Vasant Shindadkar, today we will
look at what the Ayurvedic perspective would be regarding
blood donation
Any kind of donation is considered noble
In our culture, donation is given great importance
Blood donation is not described anywhere in Ayurveda or in our culture
Nevertheless, considering the present context
blood donation is certainly the greatest form of donation
From the Ayurvedic perspective, in Ayurveda
a Panchakarma procedure called Raktamokshana is described, and this is referred to as half of the treatment
In earlier times and even now, many physicians
perform the procedure of Raktamokshana for various diseases and
in this Raktamokshana
leech application
venesection
Alabu, etc., are among the various methods
In this procedure
a small amount of blood is removed from the body and discarded, but
instead of an otherwise healthy person undergoing Raktamokshana once a year
once every six months or
once every three months, donating blood is certainly better for health
Today, whatever rules there are regarding blood donation, such as
weight
age and a specific hemoglobin level
blood donation should be done only after considering all of these factors
According to Ayurveda, Sharad Ritu, that is, approximately
in the month of October, is the best time for Raktamokshana
meaning that donating blood during Sharad Ritu is beneficial
Raktamokshana, which is one of the procedures in Panchakarma
is generally performed for those who have skin diseases such as
pimples on the face
psoriasis, etc.
many types of skin-related disorders
those in whom the Pitta dosha is present in greater proportion
those who have disorders related to heat
acidity
headaches, etc., and many other diseases, the Raktamokshana procedure is performed, and for such
diseases, instead of Raktamokshana, under medical advice
donating blood can certainly provide the benefits of Raktamokshana
That is, along with protecting our health
we can also gain the benefit of donation
In this way, one type of Panchakarma in Ayurveda
can be transformed into a form of donation
So then, by donating blood under medical advice
let us preserve the health of society and our own health
