Do you like eating sabudana?

Hello, I am Dr. Satish Vasant Shindadkar. Today we are going to talk about

sabudana.

If we look at it, sabudana is not Indian.

It came to India approximately 80 years ago, and it cannot be said

when it was included in fasting.

During fasting, we prepare sabudana in the forms of khichdi,

kheer,

papad,

vadas, etc. Many people

roast sabudana on a griddle,

make flour from it,

and prepare thalipeeth from it and consume it during fasting.

Sabudana contains iron in abundant amounts, so it helps

increase blood levels.

It provides energy.

We get many nutritious components from it.

Sabudana helps strengthen muscles.

It contains a lot of protein, as well as

many vitamins and calcium in abundant amounts, which helps strengthen the bones.

I have just spoken about the benefits of this sabudana, but

it has more disadvantages than benefits because

it is difficult to digest.

Consuming it causes bloating,

and makes the stomach feel heavy.

If we look at it, during fasting it is necessary to

consume food that is easy to digest.

The meaning of fasting is that we

should consume light food, meaning food that is easy to digest.

We should give the stomach a little rest, but

there is a saying,

"Ekadashi and double the eating."

In this same manner,

we consume more food during any fast,

and among these, sabudana is particularly difficult to digest.

That is, how was it included in fasting?

There is no way to understand this either.

Anyway,

sabudana should mainly be avoided by people with diabetes,

as well as those with arthritis or other serious

vata-related diseases,

and obese people should also avoid sabudana, as well as

those who have increased fat around the abdomen,

have kidney stones,

have thyroid problems,

have low BP,

are heart patients,

have various stomach disorders, as well as

those who experience heartburn,

burning in the stomach,

acidity,

constipation, etc., should avoid consuming sabudana.

If you must eat sabudana, then at most

50 to 60 grams of khichdi, meaning approximately one bowl of khichdi,

should be consumed, and it should be a small bowl.

If it is a sabudana vada, then one,

at most two, and

if it is a papad, then one medium-sized papad

should be consumed.

Sabudana should definitely be avoided at night.

If there is lemon with sabudana khichdi, it may make it

a little easier to digest.

Only if we consume sabudana in this manner

can it have health benefits; otherwise,

its disadvantages are greater.
